So whatever happens, whatever you decide….
I love that he said “whatever happens, whatever you decide” before he asked her to marry him. He didn’t say ‘I want to marry you, but only if you turn down the job and stay here’. He wants to marry her, no matter what. He’s still letting her decide what she wants, he’s not using the proposal as a way to try and make her stay. He just knows that she’s his third time’s a charm and he wants to be her one and done.
No. Matter. What.
UGH. s o b b i n g
Marlowe, you beautiful scumbag
i love how he doesn’t make her choose between the job and him. He kinda makes it easier for her.
^^^ That is wat he has been doing for the past 5 years!
I loved it on principle, but I still kind of thought it was a dick move. I mean, what girl doesn’t dream of a proposal from a guy who’s too pissed at you to smile while he’s asking you to spend the rest of your life with him. Makes you swoon from the romance, that’s what it does. Even though he gave her an out first, it still reeks of desperation, so I’m honestly not sure what she’s going to say. If I were her, I’d say not right now, but ask me again soon. I really hope she says yes though.
See, I didn’t think he was too pissed to smile. I think he wasn’t smiling because he wanted her to know he was serious. Castle is the class clown, so to say, and he’s rarely without a grin on his face. So a straight face from him lets you know that he really wants you to hear what he’s saying, and know that it’s important. Would a smile have been more romantic? Perhaps. But I think the proposal was romantic in a different sense. What I saw here was a man in love, who is finally giving in to what he wants. He’s letting go of his fears and diving in head first, hopeful that she’ll dive in with him. I agree that he did it out of desperation, but I don’t think it was a bad thing. He’s saying ‘hey, I’m in this for the long haul, if you’ll have me, no matter where work or life takes you’. He is desperate, but not to try and make her stay or choose him over a job. He’s desperate to be with her, to spend his life with her. All things considered from the last few episodes and who Castle and Beckett are as individuals and as a couple, I think this was the perfect proposal.
neverleaveyourhands AGREED. Him being so dead serious, was exactly what Beckett needs. No more joking and pussyfooting around.
I think I’m the only one who isn’t happy with the proposal. It’s way too soon for my taste. They JUST got together this season….
After the first shock, which I obviously had after that cliffhanger, I first thought, that it was too soon and a desperate move as well but I also thought, that Castle was dead serious and really wants her to marry him. But what I thought was unfair, is that he pushed her into a corner but then I remembered the words that he said right before and it’s like why-am-I-narrating said: He wants her no matter how she decides, he just wants to show her, that he’s ready for more. So now I just think it’s incredibly sweet and although it is a bit soon as becapella said, an engagement doesn’t necessarily mean, that you’ll get married a few weeks/months later. Some couples wait one, two or even more years until they actually get married (e.g. Ryan and Jenny married about a year after Ryans proposal), it can be a symbol of commitment to each other. Of course it’s “meaningless” if you actually don’t get married but there’s nothing wrong in not rushing it (even though the proposal maybe was. Does anybody even get what I mean??? I just don’t seem to find the right words, which is a bit of an embarrassment :/).
Anyway what leaves me skittish is, how Beckett will react/decide. After the interrogation I thought she decided to stay but then she said to Ryan and Esposito that she has to tell them something but has to tell Castle first. I really hope she just meant with that, that she will explain to them why she behaved so distant the past couple of days.
I can also understand why she would want to have the job because it’s such an amazing opportunity and would totally fit her but I also think it’s not really what she wants, like she said to her dad, which I was actually a bit pissed about, after she told Castle last season finale: I just want you. Where she is now is where her heart, her family is. It’s not just Castle, it’s everybody else as well. And I think that’s what she realized in that interrogation room.
I don’t know how she will answer him. But if she decided to stay I’ll say she says yes or at least not yet (because she doesn’t want it to be rushed) but I’ll highly, highly doubt she’ll say no. Especially because I doubt Marlowe would do something like that, it’ll hurt the show, and us fans of course and although he loves to tease us to no end he wouldn’t do that. Also it’ll hurt the show. He knows that the actual “Moonlightning Curse” is keeping the characters apart, especially after they already got together. What I think is highly likely is that he’ll let us wait for her (definite) answer one or even a couple of episodes.
Sorry if I rambled a bit but I’m still trying to get over it and put my thoughts together :P.
Jfc you guys went deep I’m just sitting here confused and asking myself “da faq just happened?”
